About Sinotology

Sinotology is a one-man operation started by me, Frank. I'm a graphic designer by day and have always had an interest in designing t-shirts, but recently, this interest has turned into something more ambitious. And thus, Sinotology was born.

For the most part, Chinese t-shirt designs are dominated by plain Chinese characters (a lot of times poorly written) or some kind of dragon. With 5000 years of history and over a billion people, surely there must be more. I've never been able to find anything truly unique so I decided to just make them myself. My goal with Sinotology is to create some cool t-shirts drawing inspiration from all aspects of Chinese culture and lifestyle, ancient and modern. I'm not trying to educate the public about Chinese culture or to make any kind of social commentary. I just want to make cool shirts. Still want to know more? Read the blog.

Sinotology + RedBubble

All shirts on this site are printed and sold through RedBubble. Basically, I do the designs and they take care of all the rest. RedBubble is a print-on-demand company using direct-to-garment printing technology, so your shirts are printed when you order it. I chose RedBubble out of the many other print-on-demand companies not only because of their reputation for quality, but because they offer a wide range of American Apparel shirts, which are pretty much the softest, most comfortable t-shirts out there, and the only thing I will have my designs be printed on.
